February’s Inspiration – Take One Step Towards God
January’s message focused on gaining the courage to implement what God guides into our lives. We were implored to actively purify ourselves physically, intellectually and spiritually - the daily struggle of mankind. Well, this month I have a spiritual confession. I was talking to my girl friend about making some personal decisions and she suggested I pray istikhara (the Islamic prayer of guidance). I joked that I wasn’t sure my connection with God was strong enough to even recognize the answer. Instead of just laughing with me, my friend spoke to my soul. She said “No matter where you are in life, God has promised that He will come to our aid – all we have to do is call on Him.” She told me to pray. To pray with pure intentions no matter if my mind rambles, or if I find myself thinking of other things. She told me to take one step towards Allah, with the assurance that He will take two steps towards me.
Often we get in a rut and start to believe we are so far gone that it’s impossible for us to get ourselves right. We become ashamed of the life we have created for ourselves (and usually hide from others). We come to accept the circumstances even though we have the power to improve. My friend reminded me that the power is always with the individual. Spiritual purification begins with just one step, and my connection to God can be strengthened with just one thought.
Let’s visualize a better, more complete life and go about creating it one step at a time. This month join other positive groups, and meet other people working to fulfill their live missions. Surround yourself with friends who help you strengthen your relationships. This month, get out of the discomfort and onto Cloud 9!
