The Suppression of the Soul through Fear - Removing the Mask
Most of us are afraid.
We're afraid that if people knew our true thoughts, our true feelings,
our true emotions we would be outcasts.
We're afraid to bring shame upon ourselves and our families. We're afraid to stand out because by breaking
the bold, we step into unchartered territory that may not be liked or
appreciated by others. I believe part of
the human struggle is to learn to live in a place of self-acceptance, a place
of peace and to remove the social fear from our souls. Our free will is both our human gift and our
burden. An ant doesn't worry about what
role he will play in his society - it is clearly defined for him. But we have a choice. And it is the pressure
to make socially correct choices that burden and suppress the upliftment of our
souls.
A while ago I decided that I would make a conscious effort to be myself at all times, in all places. The majority of the time I'm successful, but every once in a while I find myself slipping into a mask. Doing things that I really don't want to do, and refraining from activities that I really want to partake in. This is normal. But when that continues on unchecked, our entire life can be a mask. We can appear to be so cool, so put together... but deep inside there is a restlessness, a sense of unfulfillment because we know it's all a mask. I'm at a period of life where I am once again attending to some deep spiritual changes and I'm almost at a place where I can identify and remove the final mask. I know that it's not going to be easy but I pray for God to help me become the best that I can be. To be true to myself and true to others. I pray for the same thing for you.
We as a people must begin to do the deep spiritual reflection in order to identify those things that are contrary to our nature. With the advent of technologies, text messages, TV and internet, we have neglected to strengthen our connection to nature, our connection to other humans and our connection with the one source of it all. For it is here that we are able to tap into what is good for us, what uplifts us , what makes us better, stronger, more spiritually powerful. Yes, the process can be lonely and it can be rough so we must be patient. Cut yourself some slack. And cut others some slack too. Judge less and care more. You never know what inner struggle they are attending to.
