This month, I was featured in the WMU Alumnit Spotlight. I would like to thank Shams Khan of the WMU Alumnit Foundation for soliciting this article. I must say, it's a great write up! Here it is...
Young Alumni Spotlight
Zarinah El Amin Naeem Master of Arts, Anthropology, '08
Zarinah El-Amin Naeem, a Detroit native, graduated from WMU in 2008 with a M.A. in Anthropology from the College
of Arts and Sciences. As a WMU Thurgood Marshall Fellow, Zarinah was assigned to work with Dr. Kristina Wirtz on a large community project centered on the exhibit, RACE: Are We So Different? After graduating, El-Amin Naeem was appointed WMU Coordinator for the RACE Exhibit through the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. Her responsibilities include facilitating relationships with community groups who are working to increase and celebrate the diversity of our region. Currently, there are over 65 organizations planning events, workshops, performances, art pieces, etc… all centered on the theme of improving race relations in Kalamazoo.
